Squad tactics

Cantorite: Night Freight

Lay the line. Hold the line. Four turns at a time.

Concept art: an armoured train with a gun turret crosses a stone viaduct at dusk, under purple lightning.
A board from an early build: a squad of three beside an orange locomotive on a dark stone grid, with blue move tiles and red Harrow targets.

In development

A mobile-first tactics game set in the Vesper Reach. Your squad of three guards a train that lays track across a canyon. The Harrow rises out of the canyon, and every Harrow shows exactly which tile it will hit next round. Move, shoot and push to turn those attacks aside, and get the track to the far side with the line intact.

How it plays

  • A stretch is a small board of four or five rounds. Win the fight and lay the next stretch of track across the region.
  • Every enemy shows its next attack before you act; preview a move, shot or shove and turn the Harrow's attacks against each other.
  • Bank freight to build depots, towers, garrisons, pumps and workshops beside your line. Defend them from raids, reclaim cut lines and send supply runs through crossed regions.
  • Grow veteran units and save three squad templates per faction, including their attacks, for the lineup and co-op raid preparation.
  • Play the line, a shared daily board or boss raids. In co-op, each player prepares their own squad before everyone readies up. Optional raid alerts are being prepared for the phone builds.

Platforms

Portrait, for phones first: Android and iOS. Windows, Linux, macOS and Steam Deck later.

Status

In development on Android, iOS and a private web build. The current Railhead branch includes holdings and defence fights, barracks progression, reclaim and supply runs, saved squads, co-op preparation and clearer map navigation. The public release is still to come.
